BlizzCon 2013 – Warlords of Draenor

This year I’m not going to talk too much about what’s going on with BlizzCon simply because I’m going to be working both days. What I really want to do is going to the next BlizzCon, that is my goal. That being said, I’m going to try to stay up-to-date on all the news that comes out on my phone as I wont be able to stream anything off my computer from work. I have the BlizzCon app but from what I understand it only is going to show the free streams. At least I know when I get home I’ll be able to watch it from the website.

So everyone has been putting their thoughts on what they think the next World of Warcraft expansion pack is going to be called and about. I want to look at the information posted on MMO-Champion about the domain name Warlords of Draenor being owned by Blizzard.

Warlords of Draenor Is the New Expansion

What? How can I make such a bold claim? It’s about 2 hours until BlizzCon starts and I wanted to put this out before the event for everyone and you might be asking how do I know? Do I have inside information? Well in a way I do base off the information we’ve been giving and the history of the game. What makes the most sense is for Blizzard to redo Outlands right now.

Think of this, they did Cataclysm and they main focus was to rebuild the old world, they need this because questing has changed from when they first created it. Most people nowadays just skip over Outlands doing 5-mans, even doing that with 55% exp boost from BoA Gear (60% if you have the ring) it still takes a few days to get past those levels and then you still have to go into Northrend, which I’ll agree that it’s one of the best leveling zones. Not everyone is so lucky to have RaF and get 300% more boost to leveling.

I wasn’t a fan of Cataclysm because there was only really one path to take, Mist did it a bit better but I still think that the way the design Wrath questing was the best and I hope with the next expansion they go back to that style. It’s cool to do the quest tha tell a story or a chain of them, but when they are all chain together to the point you can’t move to the next zone unless you finish a chain like Cataclysm was.

At the end of the day, redoing Outlands is a much smaller task than it was for Cataclysm, they had to rebuild a whole zone that was originally designed to level you from 1 to 60. Blizzard is going to make the level cap 100, I think they’ve learned that players have more fun playing 10 levels than they do 5, even know it’s the same time frame and quests it seems to take longer.

Another thing I think we’re going to get with this new expansion is a return to the older style of talents, I think they are going to give us more to do with each level. I don’t think we’re ever going to return to the point system of getting a point and using those points, it will be like it is now, but they will take more of our skills and turn them into talents as well as what we clear.

I also think that in terms of the talents we have now, we’ll get something every 15 levels and more of them will be talents that add to what we already have and I think they’ll also put in a new Glyph system, something like what Path of the Titans was going to be.

In short here is my list of what will happen:

  • The Title will be Warlords of Draenor
  • Level cap will be 100
  • New upgraded Talent and Glyph system
  • A profession overhaul
  • It will be a redesign Outlands/Leading to the Burning Legion
  • New Hero Class open to every race and it will be a Demon Hunter
  • Three 7 man boss raids and 5 5-man dungeons, new pet battle arena
  • There will be at least one new PVP map
  • The story will be about after Outland storyline and will also feature the Burning Legion
  • We’ll get the item smash so basically at level 100 it will be like it was when we we’re level 60.

Basically what I’ll do as the news hit I’ll write another post Sunday and score myself on what I got right and what I was dead wrong about. We’ll see how I did, each one is worth 1 point and I listed 10 major items. That’s all for now, see you at BlizzCon!
