Hello, everyone, The NU here, webmaster of Majin Planet and not my evil streaming/Youtube host Dick Armadillo here. Today I just wanted to drop you some things that have been on my mind, what my plans around here are and what you can expect going into 2018. Yes, for anyone who has been around Majin Planet any given time in the last 5 years will know that I well plan ahead months when it comes to content and what I have planned.
Dragon Ball Please
Let’s face facts, this is a Dragon Ball fan site, all about Music Videos, back when Majin Trunks owe the site, and even far before then. Sure the site had ‘content’ which you can find if you head over to the Archive website Majin Planet.org which has some old layouts and content, some history there. My point is Majin Planet was never about writing good content. A quick Google Search or going to any Wiki page out there can do that.
Fact is, fan sites that I grew up with, fan sites that I remember and still sort of build don’t exist in the new Web 4.0. Yes, I used the term 4.0 as I feel that is where we are, the age of quick it must be now and must be on my iPad.
This is the only reason the website has had the SAME layout now over 2 years now. Simply put, this layout works on mobile and I see no reason to change it now.
Movies, Reviews, Games
I love games, I love movies, but I’m also nowhere near able to put out content like some websites do. I’m not in the loop of latest news or information about anything. I don’t get a press pass or get to see films early. What I am is just one guy, yes my friends are that we play games together. You can watch me live on Twitch. But this website, the YouTube channel, the editing, the images, the coding, the money has always been me. I pay the domain costs, servers, fees, software plugins and advertising to get people to come here over the billion other websites. Trust me, no matter what my Google Check from Youtube, Amazon links or Twitch subs give me, I’ve taken a total loss in what I’ve spent over the last 25 years.
My point is I love doing what I do, it’s hard and I feel like I drove a lot of the fans away because Majin Planet isn’t about Music Videos now, that was and has been what Majin Planet was good for. Let’s face it.
Unable to Focus
I’ve tried to focus in on things I enjoyed, I gave the whole Reaction thing a try because I thought it was a quick way to make videos and get popular on YouTube quickly. Trust me, it was a lot harder than it seems but, in the end, I didn’t bring anything new to the table. I also came in the peek and trust is, something I learned in the last week about myself, my channel and this website is one simple thing.
When you go to dvd.com you expect to see DVD. When you go to Pizza.com you expect to see Pizza. When you go to MajinPlanet.com what are you going to see? For those who don’t know, Majin literally means demon god or simply put Devil. Most people don’t know that. For those who aren’t fans of Dragon Ball, know about it but not fans they have no idea what Majin Planet is, when going to the site you find a mix of Dragon Ball, Marvel, and other random things. No focus, when ran Hunter Mastery I discovered one thing. What I was doing was amazing and how I run sites is better than 90% of those who run them free like I do.
What is Majin?
I’m no business, in fact, I’m shocked FUNimation hasn’t tried to shut me down for using the term “Majin” or even all the use of Dragon Ball images. They haven’t because I don’t make money and if I walked outside, went to a school and said “Majin Planet” no one knows what the hell I’m talking about. Even if you walk into a room “or chat room” of people from 10 years ago who ran anime websites and I said, Majin Planet, maybe 5% would remember or even know what it was.
However, if I said, Naruto Fan or Planet Namek to a group of webmasters or site owners they all would know what I was talking about. This is what I mean by Identity. Somewhere along the way, this website lost what it was. This is why traffic is so low and it feels like a ghost town.
It’s hard, trust me. Even my YouTube Channel has seen a massive issue with not having an identity for itself. When I ran Hunter Mastery, it was about one thing and one thing only. Hunters in World of Warcraft and gold making. It worked, I had two niche subjects, Hunters and Gold making in one game. Sure I did some stuff with Hearthstone, talked about Diablo 3 and Heroes of the Storm, but it was 1% of what 99% of the content I put out. I also had a ton of time to not just play that game but put out the content on a daily basis. Yes for one full year I posted something worth at least 500+ words each day.
It was amazing.
It was fun.
It proved that I wasn’t just a hack who didn’t know what I was doing.
So why has Majin Planet failed? Because my mold of being a website about EVERYTHING I enjoy doesn’t work. Look at it this way. I write something about Dragon Ball Super I get massive hits. People love it. They follow the site, they come back the next day and I post something about Super Sentai. Those who are well in the lesser know, Power Rangers. Well, that isn’t your thing. You come back the next day, something about DC. Well, you’re a Marvel Fan. Again you return and I wrote something about some random movie, meh okay. But you came here for Dragon Ball. After a while, you just stop coming. Reader lost.
What is Majin Planet really?
With YouTube, this is something I’m still trying to discover, and I feel that taking in the whole Am I Evil? Yes, I am, needs to hold more meaning. That has been the new focus I’m trying.
I can’t give you what Majin Planet was known for, Music Videos. I don’t know nor did I then have that magic touch to make them and make them great. Sure I could find people, but are AMV’s still a thing? I mean even if I could put out one new Music Video a month is that worth a whole site for? That can just be done on YouTube. For the old, that is why the Music Videos I have are here and will always be here.
Not the Same
Truth be told, I tried to make the website, Twitch and YouTube the same thing. But they are not. There are things I can do with the website I can’t there. Dragon Ball, I’m no good at talking to a camera about the show. I’ve tried, I’ll try harder but maybe if I just write about Dragon Ball, at least once a week plus post up the latest episodes of Super.
Sure I know I was against hosting full episodes back then, but you know why hurt myself like that? It’s a new time now, a new web. Why most people who might enjoy my content I write all because we couldn’t be found? Will I still write reviews? Yes, it won’t be its own section anymore, but it’s something I enjoy and I can put my Majin twist on it.
This has already gotten super long, well over 15 00 words, but what I want to say before I end this to just say thank you. If you wish to discuss this, check out the Facebook Group The Asylum. Toss me a Tweet on Twitter or email me.
