So, it was that time again, when the Academy gets together and show their support and give awards to the best of the best of the business. I personally think of the Oscars as the Superbowl to Football, you get the idea. So that being said, like the Superbowl the only thing I’ve ever cared about the last I don’t know, the last 10 years. It’s been the movie trailers. Am I right?
91st Academy Awards
So this last Sunday the 91st Academy Awards happened and I’m gonna talk about it? Why? Well, I’m gonna tell you why first I’m working to get back into the habit of posting daily again. This was something I did years ago back On Hunter Mastery (which was a World of Warcraft Hunter Gold-Making Blog FYI) and that I think was rather successful rather quickly. There honestly is a lot of things I’m gonna be doing differently now, focusing on content more than all the backend, promoting and behind the scenes.
But back to the topic, the Academy Awards, I was never really ever a fan. I think that is because of how they are done. Almost always, the movies that end up getting say the best picture or the movie of the year. Are always movies I think or at least, in my opinion, are crap. I shouldn’t say crap, more so I don’t care for them. I think the nature of how they choose and why for each films categories, such as best film score, best actor, best visual effects, etc. They are all kind of under me.
I feel the way they do things, such as Black Panther won the best score, best sound mixing. Sound mixing really? I mean seriously, these are professional movies. People always talk about, when you do Twitch or YouTube, that sound is everything. While I have issues still with my sound (mainly on the tabletop game and event nights) that if you don’t have good sound, who cares how amazing the rest is.
I think it’s awesome that Black Panther won some awards, in fact, it’s the only Marvel film to EVER win anything. I think Infinity War was a Nominee for Visual Effects and lost to another movie.
All seriousness, Visual Effects maybe 10 years ago when things were kind of hard for a studio to do, like when Lord of the Rings was first done. Maybe when the first Transformers film came out. Transformers didn’t even win Best Visual Effects that year. So really, I don’t think anyone takes the Awards seriousness.
Infinity War Best Picture
Some of you might be shocked, but was Infinity War the best picture of the year? Nope. It was a Nominee? Nope, not even close. I think that goes into what Best Picture kind of means. If you’ve never seen any Marvel film, know nothing about the comics and go in and watch Infinity War.
You will be lost. You will think it was rushed and stupid. To really see how amazing that film is, you need to watch like 20 other films. If you go deeper, read the comics or even watch some of the TV shows. Mainly Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD the rest aren’t really needed. Just like you don’t need to read every comic ever to get the Infinity War Saga.
So that said, I can see why Infinity War didn’t get Best Picture of the year. However, Black Panther was good and didn’t really deal with the bigger MCU all that much, so you can watch it on its own without watching the other MCU films and enjoy it.
That is a plus, should it had won? Yes. But you know, the fact they even gave it a nod.
Don’t take Awards Serious
Just because a movie you think is stupid and not your cup of tea, wins a bunch of awards, doesn’t lessor your opinions. Think about this too, when someone gets an award, it’s mainly saying that person/group’s opinion that this movie is the best of the best. Sometimes the general public agrees.
Like for example, Avatar, never seen it. Don’t care, I’ve seen here and there but I’ve seen that movie before, the plot is very simple, it’s not all that funny. To be honest, it’s like Final Fantasy 7, it’s overrated. Doesn’t mean it’s not good. Same with FF7, just means that some people like to jump on the train of praise than forming their own opinion.
Sometimes having the same general public opinion is better for some. We can’t all be leaders, some of us have to be a follower. I heard about how angry fans are about Black Panther not winning Sunday and even Infinity War not getting a thing. Honestly, if the Academy was going to give Marvel any kind of Best Picture, even if they gave it to Endgame, it wouldn’t do what Marvel has done justice.
Marvel needs its own award for Best Cinematic Universe. That would mean everyone else like the Monster Verse, Stephen King Cinematic Universe, DCEU needs to get all the ball. Honestly, only the Godzilla Universe they are doing seems to be working out. But that’s because they’ve focused on making good movies (trying too) vs trying to connect a unvierse as the Mummy tried or whatever the Dark Tower was supposed to be.
I guess what I’m getting at, is don’t get upset. Let them have their awards, watch, don’t watch. Get mad but remember it’s your opinion and that is all that really matters in the end.
Oh yeah one last thing.
