In the last few years, we’ve slowly been seeing a change in comic book movies. Back when they first started making them, with Superman, then Batman and such, superhero or Comic Book movies where very cheesy and lighthearted films. Nothing at all like today’s movies such as Iron Man, The Dark Knight or even Man of Steel. Even the last Spider-man film had a darker tone to it. The question I’d like to talk about today is; Are Serious Comic Book Movies better than the latter?
The first answer I would come up with would be yes, because Batman Begins was awesome, the movie I would ague started the serious comic book trend. What followed was movies like Iron Man, The Amazing Spider-Man and even Hulk and such, which had a darker undertone to them and dug deeper into the characters. You also can’t forget movies like 300 and Watchmen which are based on serious comic books.
When you think about it, movies like Captain America, Thor, and The Avengers where all more lighthearted films but not to cheesy. Which seems to be working right now for marvel. But the question is could they be more serious? While The Avengers was amazing, most of that was the fact of how the movie was pulled together with the same characters and actors than the plot.
We can’t forget about Blade while it was bloody it wasn’t very dark or very serious; deep stories as you can see. I honestly believe that DC movies just need to be darker. Even know DC comics are a bit more silly and overpowered in my opinion. Marvel just has more themes that ground the story and relate to.the readers.
So what do you think? Are you digging the more serious tone comic book movies are taking now? Let me know what you think in the comments below. Don’t forget to share this with your friends and lastly be subscribe to our RSS Feed.
