So more news has been coming out online about the new X-Men Days Of Future Past, which I guess would be in order number 5 in the series, I guess if you look at how the movies go in order of timeline it would end up going something like this:
- X-Men: First Class (2011)
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
- X-Men (2000)
- X2: X-Men United (2003)
- X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
- The Wolverine (2013)
- X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
What? The Wolverine is after Last Stand?
Yeah I know that seems sort of silly and strange given it’s a Wolverine movie and you’d think it take place before X-Men. I haven’t seen The Wolverine yet but from what I’ve heard it takes place timeline wise after The Last Stand and there is a scene at the end that sets up Days of Future Past.
So what is Days Of Future Past?
Basically in the X-Men comics, it’s a series of events that happen that cause most of the X-Men to be hunted down and killed by Sentinels. A mutant from the future travels back in time to stop a key event from happening that results in the Sentinels and the death of almost all the mutants. The story line is twisted and has time travel.
To be honest with you, given that First Class is a retelling of how the X-Men were formed and not a Reboot as we now see as the cast members of First Class will be in Days Of Future Past along side with all the cast members that where in X-Men, etc. I almost wonder given the nature of Days Of Future Past if they somehow didn’t plan this from the start.
X-Men Film Plot-Holes
The X-Men film series is full of plot-holes and just down right.. huh moments. The problem is you have Bryan Singer who I believe co-wrote and also directed X-Men and X2. I thought X-Men was pretty good and X2 was going the right way even know those two films had problems in terms of the characters backgrounds but solid films.
Bryan Singer didn’t have much to anything to due with Last Stand (he left the project to do Superman Returns) other than I believe a first or so draft of the script, he also had nothing to do with the two stand alone Wolverine films (at least I thought they would be).
Then you have First Class which Bryan Singer was apart of and now Days of Future Past. I feel that this story was chosen because it is one of the best story lines in X-Men lore and it also gives the film makers a big chance to fix all their mistakes in the stories of characters while not making the other films null.
My thoughts about this so far? I hope it turns out to be a good film, given how many characters we’re going to be dealing with, and not just new characters to the series but two versions of many. It makes me wonder how much screen time everyone will get. We all know that Wolverine will be the center of the film as sad as that sounds.
This is one of the stories he did play a major role in. I can understand how movie goers however might be bored due to the fact the character has been featured in every movie and overshadow some even more important characters like Scott Summers just to name one. Only time will tell if this will be the X-Men movie we’ve all been waiting to see.
