Today I’m gonna talk about the latest episode of Power Rangers Ninja Steel. With the Power Rangers movie coming out later this week, I decided to go ahead and do a review. To be honest, Ninja Steel isn’t horrible in what they are doing. The biggest issue I have with what I’ve seen is they are rushing it. My first impression of the show wasn’t great as I explained. I know that’s sort of bad giving how many great Power Ranger shows they have done.
Power Rangers Ninja Steel Episode 8, called Gold Rush, of course, we follow the story of the rangers trying to find the Gold Ranger. They want to know who he is and it seems every time the rangers show up the Gold Ranger takes out the monster and leaves just before the Rangers can find out who he is. I will leave you decided what you think of Power Rangers Ninja Steel Episode 8, Gold Rush.
Gold Rush Review
I like the idea of the Gold Ranger being a cowboy, which makes sense given the suit and everything. I do kind of wish they had used the hamburger device from Ninninger which is how the Gold Ranger morphs. From what I can tell, it seems that Saban is not using a whole lot of Ninninger footage. A few monster shots of attacks and what not and then the zord battles. They, of course, are using their own cockpit just like they did in Dino Charge, making changes and everything.
The humor of the episode was really funny and I do start to like the Megazord, it’s silly and campy but it seems to work. The backstory of the rangers is lacking and one of the biggest things that sort of confused me was how the Gold Ranger seem to work with the Rangers.
I was also a bit bother by some of the stories in the episode. Such as there seems to be no reason to why the Zord showed the Ninja Storm logo in the middle of the battle. They don’t explain it, most new fans wouldn’t even notice. But long term fans who know that is the same logo of Ninja Storm. Which is suppose to at least make some kind of cameo in season 2 of Ninja Steel.
Gold Ranger Joins the Megazord without a Zord
It’s the first time a Ranger has had a spot in the cockpit of the Megazord without his own Zord. Most of the time, the 6th Ranger and beyond have their own zord or zords that transform into their own Megazord. But it seems that he got his zord after the fact. Which is fine, it’s just weird he would already have his area in the cockpit before we even know if his zord is gonna. Not like the Red and Blue Rangers that can become the main zord or if he’ll gain his own set of zords.
Keep in mind here, I have not personally watched Ninninger so I can’t tell you that he is for sure gonna be working just like the Red Ranger Zord. While there are some parts of Ninja Steel story that is confusing, such as the Red Bot friend to Brody who by all means I thought when I saw him that he was gonna turn into his zord but it’s not. So it’s strange that Red Bot looks just like his zord. Maybe they will do something with that later. With the season only being about 20 or so episodes I can’t see that happening.
Problems with Gold Rush
One of the things about being power rangers was never revealed yourself. We see it many times how the Rangers try to keep themselves hidden in season 1 of MMPR. However, in Ninja Steel, it seems they just rush into battle and even morph without a thought. Given that they are supposed to be in High School; I feel they pretty much are ignoring that fact. I haven’t seen them in school very much. So how will Levi Weston be able to run away to help the team when he’s in the middle of a gig.
Brody pulls out his watch and talks to his friends right in front of Levi Weston of course before we know he’s the Gold Ranger. Given the way they have introduced other rangers in the very episode they appear, there is no build up so I sort of already knew that Levi Weston was the Gold Ranger.
Throwbacks to Ninninger
I wanted to talk about this because I noticed it and it made me chuckle. Many people didn’t like how they change the Morpher in Jungle Fury. In Ninja Steel, they changed the Morpher again, even the Gold Ranger who used a Hamburger shaped device to morph. An early scene where Brody and Levi are having a burger. I thought it was a nice little inside nod to that.
The Gold Ranger’s catchphrase “let’s get this party started!” is a nod to the Japanese version which is “party night!”. One thing that is different from Ninninger is his name. He’s known as StarNinger as the America version he’s known as simply Gold Ranger. It’s not the first time they’ve changed the name of a ranger to meet the same standard. I would have rather have him known as StarNinja than Gold Ranger simply because of the context behind it. It makes sense to me, as Levi is a famous country singer.
