As I spoke when starting my Regular Show Reviews, I also wanted to do Adventure Time reviews as well. Other than trying to write-up reviews starting at episode 1 of Adventure Time I’ve decided to write-up season reviews, in the meantime I’m going to start at the latest episode for Adventure Time. Today’s episode review, the Jake Suit.
This is a really weird episode, but I shouldn’t be too bothered because pretty much every episode of Adventure Time is weird. This is a follow-up episode “The Silent King”. In The Silent King, Finn jumps into Jake and wore him as a disguise and armor. The details of the Jake Suit was supposed to be in the first season, but was scrapped and later reworked into The Silent King.
Jake Suit, features the Jake Suit, with Finn now more grown up as with the change of his voice, being more adult, something the creators said would happen as the show went on, Finn would get older (something many cartoons don’t do where the main characters are the same age through its whole run). Finn is inside of Jake, walking around their home causing damage to Jake, using him like a suit.
Finally Jake has had enough telling Finn that it hurts when he’s inside of his body, causing his brain to not handle pain very well. Finn telling him what he should do bothers Jake even more to the point he jumps inside of Finn as sort of way to teach him a lesson, one that seemly fails. Jake controlling Finn tries to do everything he can to prove to Finn that it hurts to be worn as a body of armor.
I almost want to say that Finn is messed up and doesn’t even feel pain and is fearless now given everything he’s gone through since he was 11 years old at the start and would now be 15. I found the whole Buff Baby song as funny as heck as Jake tries to embarrass Finn in front of Flame Princess (Finn’s girlfriend). Even when that fails, Jake finally getting an idea to jump into lava from one of his sons.
When all else fails and fear of really hurting Finn, Jake gives in taking them out of the lava. Finn happy he won their bet, jumps into Jake and dives into the lava. This leaves them both burned up and wrapped up in the hospital. Overall it was pretty funny and strange, but that’s what I love about Adventure Time.
