I had a really busy weekend, I watched three awesome films that I otherwise wouldn’t have watched. One of them was Rise of the Guardians which to be honest I didn’t know anything about. Honestly when I heard about the film I didn’t really think too much about it.
In the last, I dunno 5 or so years I haven’t really been too big into animated films, I think the last film animated wise I really liked was Toy Story 3. I kind of just wanted to go to sleep when it started; but you know I had an open mind and started to really enjoy the film. At the end I really loved it I still had some questions and hope they are answered in a squeal some day.
Not to spoil the film, but I’ll tell you a little bit about the set-up and characters; the film follows Jack Frost, the spirit of winter who is pulled out of a pond by the Man in the Moon. As you can guess, Jack lives now without knowing anything about his past or why he was there. What is worst for Jack is no one can see or hear him.
Three-hundred years later the story picks up where Santa Claus, learns that the Boogeyman or also called Pitch Black has returned, with this he calls the other Guardians to seek the Man of the Moon’s help in what to do. It seems that Pitch Black was the reason for the dark ages and that Pitch Black was also since then in the same boat as Frost, no one could see or touch him.
Who are the Guardians?
The Guardians are the Tooth Fairy, The Sandman or Sandy and The Easter Bunny. To deal with this threat, the Man of the Moon selects a new Guardian and that man is Jack Frost. At this point, Frost has met most of them at least once and there is a strong dislike for the Easter Bunny. This points out that the other Guardians can see Jack, just not the kids or anyone else.
I honestly really connected and I know what it’s like to not be seen by people I want to see me. While not to that extreme I get the message and for the most part I connected and understood Jack, The Easter Bunny and Sandman. I even understood the pain of the villain, Pinch Black and while he was evil I could feel why he did what he was doing.
Overall the film was fantastic, for being a little cheesy at times I’m still gonna give it a high rating. I can’t however give it a perfect rating because some elements of the story was missing and I wished they had answered them. But everything from the voice acting, the animation, the story and flow was really good. If you haven’t seen Rise of the Guardians yet you really need to pick up a copy or retail.
