Not gonna lie, it seems to happen every year, I run right into a rut that all my creative juices seem to die. Let’s be dead honest here, this time around it wasn’t totally my own fault for the lack of content creating, new videos, updates and even game nights for the month of May. While I am in no way gonna drop and say that it was fully one thing over another, I will let you know how I feel about the current state of things.
YouTube Broke My Channel
Okay, this one is pretty clear what happens. I’m not all about making money, heck I have a full-time job for that. Never have I made paywalls or requested that people pay me for my hard work. Unlike many YouTubers and other big websites out there who run a YouTube Channel, they generally have people working for them. Such as someone who (not always) comes up or helps in the creative process. Someone who edits the videos, which is a massive time saver.
Having someone edit for you gives you the chance to either make more videos or to do other things like free time. Or whatever you feel you should be doing. You then often times have other jobs filled, like those who run your channel, dealing with comments, social media, etc. Now granted many YouTuber, especially the smaller ones (but bigger than us) do some of the same roles.
They changed it on me
For me, it’s a matter of doing it all myself. This limits the time for new content and trying to kick out new content daily not just on the website but YouTube itself can become overwhelming. Nothing more can kill your muse to do something, than the platform itself. When YouTube changed how they handle ads, they also did something else. I can’t tell you how much of change but I noticed that within the time frame they changed how ads work. We all know what happened there; all my videos which in the past did rather well view wise drop nearly 80%.
Videos that got normally 200-500 views per day started getting more like 5-10 that is a massive drop to my videos not showing up in results as much but I found it also harder to keep up. To be honest, I don’t know what happened, but I do know that it has changed and as such, so must I. That is why nothing has been really done in a month because I’m thinking of how to change it. I’m totally fine if the channel dies some because it died the moment YouTube made their change.
Streaming and Twitch
To be honest, streaming can take a lot out of a person. Doing it every day, doing it when no one is watching and trying to pretend that they are watching. Generally, when I’m streaming I don’t look at the view count. Unless my friends are over because they generally care. That brings me to the weekly shows, Saturday Night Wars, and our monthly events. Which if you watched, Power Masters never happened. There is a reason for this.
First, burn out. Speaking with a lot of my friends who stopped by, most of them were showing up less and less and some of them even directly told me that it got boring. I agree, the difference between the monthly events and the weekly show had more or less merged and there was no difference other than the name. The whole point of the monthly events was to make it something special. But when you stream a board game, in the middle of the night as we did, with 90% of your viewers watching top Hearthstone and League players, leaves little room to grow as a streamer.
This isn’t even me bitching and whining that no one watched my stream. I know how it works, unless you have massive amounts of money to get noticed, no one will. Those who were supporting my channel, giving me shout outs or hosting me this all happened when I streamed in the afternoons. Also changing up my streaming times all the time, I know put people off. Granted I also stream to other services like Streamcast (formerly Hitbox) Mixer (formerly Beam), YouTube Gaming and Stream.me. I generally focus on Twitch and YouTube in terms of the viewers than the others. The idea is to bring those from other platforms to Twitch or YouTube.
Now with that said I’m making changes to that as well. This also means changes to the Events.
Streaming and Event Changes
Streaming will be something I only do now, on my days off. Looking at doing Monday and Tuesday afternoon streaming. For events, they will happen once a month, and its gonna be something I do on Monday afternoons, looking at setting it at a time from 4 pm to 11 pm. The reason is that way we know when to start, and when it ends. I will also have them more planned out in terms of what games we are playing, the theme and the players.
I know it won’t make everyone happy, but that’s just how it will be. Also, something I’m gonna looks at Monday is likely twice a month get together with friends and do some Magic the Gathering Deck building and games. I am also going to limit the amount of time I play Hearthstone just because for the state of the game is sort of starting to bug me, plus trying to break in as a streamer playing it seems nearly never gonna happen.
The list of my games will be more games to play with friends, such as Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, SMITE, Destiny, Battlegrounds and likely for solo play, more Xbox Games, that I’ll play as well as some Starcraft, The Sims, Clash of Clans, and something else. I will still play some Hearthstone but it’ll be much more limited.
When I stream I’m gonna stream and make it more like let’s hang out and play some games, talk some movies than just me trying to grind ranks that I really don’t care too much about.
You might have noticed, I changed up how the website is broken down. No longer is it broken down into Anime, Movies, Games, TV, etc. Now it’s broken down into Reactions, Reviews, Unboxing, Games and the Blog. I don’t spend a lot of time nor do I have a staff pumping out written content, so it’s better to just have a few sections and spread it out some. Because having a said anime section but not writing about any anime seem stupid.
I’m totally behind on uploading Dragon Ball Super. This is gonna change this week, so by Sunday, I should be putting up the latest episode for you guys to watch.
I’m gonna do more of the things I enjoy doing and not worry so much anymore about how many people are reading the blog, watch the videos and most of all if I’m making any damn money off it. It would be great, yes, but no longer going to treat this as a business when first off it’s not and most of all I want to have fun. When I wasn’t having fun anymore, it stopped.
Upcoming, however, I’m gonna write a Logan review as I do have the DVD now. Plan on doing a Wonder Woman one as I’ll see that soon. Who knows, we’ll see how the week goes. I’ve been really feeling sick all month and under the weather which hasn’t helped in my mojo either.
But I hope this has helped some of you understand what has been going on, I plan on writing more about the things I care about, such as shows I’m watching, movies I care about, games and other things of that nature. I would really like to do some kind of daily blog or just whatever but we’ll see. I’ve tried those in the past but they seem to die rather quickly.
I am going to, however, start some web shows, MajinCast will finally officially launch, details still working out. Three Fat Guys Pokemon Go Season 2 will start this Summer, gonna do 12 Episodes this time. Also, I’m looking to do a web show for Sunday’s starting in two weeks which I’ll announce later this week.
