I’ll have to admit I haven’t played Hearthstone in a good while the last expansion was okay I wasn’t really too thrilled about it initially. While I did enjoy some of the gameplay and some of the new mechanics I just ended up becoming bored with the game.
Oddly enough, I like the Boomsday Project.
It’s easy for anybody to become bored with a game supposed to be played all the time. Those of you who watch me on Twitch will know for a couple of months they’re all I played with Hearthstone.
Probably the biggest letdown was the fact that while I got new cards and you mechanics the overall gameplay simply just didn’t mean too much. Some of the best things about a card game is playing against other people. When you end up running into the exact same decks over and over again with little to no variety in gameplay.
That was when the game becomes dull and boring. Personally, Hearthstone needs different gameplay formats than just Arena (Draft), Standard and Wild.
Hearthstone is Dull
I think it’s safe to say that Hearthstone needs a major overhaul when it comes to its standard gameplay. Unlike physical card games like Magic the Gathering, for example, a game that I enjoyed immensely which has multiple formats.
But to be fair magic has been printing out card since 1994 and Hearthstone is luckily I think only a couple years old. Magic releases 3 to 4 sets of a year not including spin-off products. While Hearthstone releases three times a year.
I think this expansion probably was the first one in a while but I actually didn’t even pay attention to anything about it. Heck, I didn’t even watch the teaser trailer or the release trailer for The expansion. Probably because at most if I do play it’s to do the five games to get my card back.
Making it Easier for New Players
Just like with other Blizzard games where they try to make things a little easier for new players they have done the same thing with Hearthstone. In the past, you had to reach at least rank 20 to be able to get your card back. But now you just have to win five games.
So you could still be ranked 25 and have won five games. For the most part, I think this is kind of pushed a lot of bad players out of the higher ranks or should I say lower rings.
The reason I say this is because I’ve noticed the gameplay has improved just a little bit and I think mostly when I play against other players on the ladder I’ve noticed better gameplay this time around. This makes it so I want to play more.
One of the biggest things that pushed me away from playing as much or even streaming is, is I’m not someone who will go online, grab a deck a ‘pro’ has put together as being the best cards for this hero, for this gameplay style (aggro, control, etc) and just play that deck.
Even some of these quote-unquote net decks have a 50 to 60% win rate which I feel like is really low. But you can still reach Legend rank with a deck of 60% win rate. You just need to play A LOT of games to reach that. Which makes the ranking system to Legend to be a very long road.
Unless you have the time set to play 5+ hours a day, your everyday joe, like me who isn’t ‘pro’ will never reach legend. Even if you’re good at the game.
Honestly, for somebody like me to reach Legend, it would be completely and utterly impossible simply because I don’t play five-plus hours a day. unless you have a deck with an 80% win rate which is almost unlikely. It’s just not going to happen heck even some of my best decks I created myself have a win rate of 65 to 70% and I still if lucky reach the rank of 15.
The Boomsday Project
I ended up buying both the packages for the release simply because one I wanted the card back into it was probably going to be the only allotment of cards I would spend real life money on.
Those of you who have watched me for a while no I have spent quite a bit of cash on this game. I have pretty much every single card minus a few legendary cards and some I even ended up disenchanting just for the dust to make better legendary cards.
I didn’t look at any pro-deck any net decks or whatever you want to call it I just started making some adjustments to my pre-existing decks. Something I have not done ever. Generally what I do when a new expansion comes out as I delete all my decks in startup from scratch.
I’ve always prided myself as being a Hunter first, in any game, MMO, etc, I’ve always picked a Hunter or range class first. So when Hearthstone came around, it’s no real shock that the first golden hero I’ve reached and only is the Hunter Hero.
However, with The Boomsday Project, I’ll admit my focus has switched to Warrior. Even now, I’ve made changes to all my decks, I’ve so far played the most out of my new Warrior deck. Now maybe this deck has already been made and someone will say I just copied it. Which is fine, I really don’t need to prove to anyone that I created it.
With such a limited number of cards in the Standard format, it’s really, really hard to build a deck and say it’s your deck. Unlike Magic, even in Wild Format, it’s hard to build a deck that has a 60% or higher win rate and say, it’s your deck. Unlike Magic which you can have a deck with an 80% win rate and it is totally unique to your style.
Winning and Losing
Overall I would say I’m having a great time. While I’m only about rank 23 I believe because considering it drops your rank every month and since I have done zero ranking for like 3 months I started this month at rank 25. My win rate is about 78% with 7-2 stats. However, I played 4 games without my Hearthstone Deck Tracker even running.
I won those 4 games and then I lose 2 games the following day at work when I was on my phone. I should really learn to not try and play a game on my 15min break. Because most of my games now last 40mins.
It’s a control deck, it’s a means to reaching the end game and winning. Aggro decks are more for my 15mins, but they aren’t fun anymore.
All that, my real win rate is 11-4 which is a 73% win rate. Lower than what my stats will show, but still above 60%. I suppose we’ll have to see how things go from here.
