First off, most of you are likely asking yourself. What the hell is Kamen Rider and why should I watch it? Well as most of you who know what Kamen Rider is, if you’ve read my first impressions of Zi-O from a few months back, you’d know that I’ve had mix opinions of the show. But I love the show and haven’t missed an episode since starting watching it around 8 or 9. Honestly, I can’t even remember now.
Why Kamen Rider?
Because it’s awesome! Okay so Japanese TV might not be your thing, but to be honest with you Japanese shows are super fun and while they can be serious. They take themselves with the fun factor to all-new levels. it’s not different when Kamen Rider Zi-O. So before I tell you why you should be watching it, first let’s talk about 5 reasons you should.
1 Kamen Rider Zi-O is a better version of Decade.
First, Decade was my first real go into Kamen Rider. While like most of us who watched it back as kids before we knew what it was. Yes if you watched Power Rangers back in the early 90s then you saw Mask Rider. You might have guessed it.
Mask Rider is the English word for Kamen Rider and Mask Rider like Power Rangers was based off a Japanese show. More so the show Kamen Rider Black RX which was by far the last best Kamen Rider before they went on a hiatus for almost a decade.
Kamen Rider Decade was my first real-time watching and I fell in love with. Likewise, if you’ve never watched Kamen Rider, Zi-O is a good way to get into it. Given how Decade was about the older Riders and their powers. Zi-O is the same but with a better way of using the past riders than Decade did.
2 Zi-O is longer vs Decade
I feel like I’m talking a lot about Decade. Not because I’m a fan, heck I even have his belt and even did a video review on it. Decade is, in fact, a big part of the show after around episode 13 when he shows up. While not a major player at the start the last half he’s become a regular to the point people have called the show Decade Season 2.
Rightfully so, and I love it. While I love Zi-O, everything about it. Decade was sadly only 32 episodes, ended on a cliffhanger and honestly, I don’t think he’s had a real ending yet. Maybe this weeks episode of Zi-O he will.
3 Armor Time!
In Decade, he used cards he gain by going to A.R. Worlds of the past 9 Kamen Riders. This was because Decade was the 10th series of the Heise era. Zi-O is the 20th and final as the Heise Period has ended in Japan. (That’s a whole other topic) To the point, Decade could transform himself into past riders using his cards. This was cool. However, Armor Time is better.
Zi-O uses watches, which his theme is mainly base around time. In this, he uses the watches to get themes armor that attached to his suit. Sort of a tribute to the past rider while keeping the Zi-O look. It’s even super cool when he uses Decade’s watch!
4 The Story
I’m a sucker for stories about time travel, maybe it’s why I love Back to the Future and Endgame so much, to name a few. While some might say the story of Zi-O is weak and some of the plot holes are there.
Yes, but I love how the characters have to deal with the fact that two people from the future are there to stop him from becoming an evil SOB when he’s the nice guy ever.
The week after week I’ve been trying to come up with what the ending will be. Something I should have been writing about. Honestly, but that’s all gonna change as I wanna write about what I think the ending of Zi-O will be before it airs on Saturday Night. (Sunday in Japan)
5 Grand Zi-O!
Okay, I’m gonna agree to a point that Grand Zi-O was underused and I wished I got to see more. While it was revealed in Episode 40 and was kind of not used a whole lot since.
I can understand the flow of the story and focus on why it wasn’t used. I can also understand why it was shown that it was almost weaker than his other forms like Decade (his first super form) and Trinity Form (his other power-up form). Grand Zi-O is the result of collecting all 19 past rider watches.
With the form, he becomes a little funny, at first seeing the photos and leaks I wasn’t sure. I thought it looked ugly. However, once I saw it, man. Trust me I plan on getting the belt and that Watch at the least before the price shoots upon them.
So there you have it, 5 reasons why you should start watching Kamen Rider Zi-O and with them bring in past actors for past riders, it will get you to watch other shows. Such as Drive and Build both shows I skipped. After Double, I kind of fell out of Kamen Rider for a few years. Most of that reason was due to simply time.
I will be streaming Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 48 on Saturday night on a special show of The Majin Cast.
