This is honestly the biggest question I’ve asked myself the last few months since the Shadowlands trailer first dropped at least years Blizzcon. From the moment, people started talking about it. Over the years I’ve grown a love/hate relationship with World of Warcraft.
In my days of not really having a full-time job. My job was working at comic book stores, playing Magic the Gathering, and playing Wrath all day. While working on my then website called Focushot Info. This was the grounds for in 2010-2011 when I started HunterMastery.com
Personally, Hunter Mastery was great, the playing in the Beta that summer for Cataclysm, building Focushot, and turning it into HunterMastery midway into 2011. I was on my way. That was my thing.
A new expansion pack is announced by Blizzard for Warcraft, I generally got into the Beta, release a bunch of theory information, ideas and upcoming changes to the Hunter class and how to make Gold with it.
Things changed around the time of the late summer of 2012. That summer was the peak of HunterMastery as a whole. While I was dipping my feet into Podcasting, posting YouTube videos, and working on my Gold Guide. The beta for Mists of Pandaria was a massive change for me.
A New Life
I was gearing up for the launch of Mist in 2012, but things in my personal life changed. A spark to rebuild Majin Planet came back to me. At the time, since 2009, Majin Planet was more or less dust of those old fan sites. The forums died, I hadn’t touched the Facebook page in years.
Then I found love.
I moved far away from home.
No longer did I have hours on end to worry about a website, let along with a game as massive as World of Warcraft. I had someone to take care of, a new life I wanted. Before I knew it, Mists sort of passed by me.
In the coming years that was kind of how each new expansion pack went for me. I would get invited to the beta, generally not do anything with it. Form 2012 to about 2014, Hunter Mastery died. It became harder and harder to keep up with two websites.
They merged, only a shell of Hunter Mastery remains now.
Battle for My Money
So here we are, fast forward to the latest expansion pack, Battle for Azeroth. I’ve liked it but then I’ve also hated it. I’ve lost touch with the ‘grind’ I hate having to play hours on hours now. I enjoy just having some fun.
I’m not one of those players who want to have everything given to them without working for it. Over the years I’ve missed out on many cool items and achievements in the game. Some things I do get upset that I missed. But I wasn’t actively playing at those times and so I don’t think I should be given those things.
Just because I pay for the game, doesn’t mean I should be given things. Especially in an MMO game. With Battle for Azeroth coming to an end, I find myself wanting to play more. Sort of the same thing happened with Legion, which I did love. I’ll start right up with the game for a few months. Fall off for most of it, only tapping in now and then. Then I come back at the end.
You know to sort of ‘get’ ready for the next one.
The trailer was freaking off the charts, didn’t expect what happened. Serious, it was so epic that I ended up doing a reaction video to it.
So after debating for months and months now, I’ve finally broken down and pre-order Shadowlands. Yeah, after saying for months I wasn’t going too. How I’ve lost faith in Blizzard (another topic) and yet even with fails like Warcraft 3 Reforge and the way the state of the game really is. WOW classic and my lack of drive to play it.
I’ve given Blizzard my hard-earned money. Here this time Blizzard is offering different Editions this time. Under the normal prices, you would expect by a company like Activision.
Not just the normal $49.99 that they generally are, but the $80 one. Yeah, you heard me, that one. I said you know what? I never really do this, why not?
So not only am I going back down to my roots of when I was making money with blogging, when I was having fun. When I had the motivation to write, it was when I was making World of Warcraft content.
So yeah, expect that World of Warcraft content is on the way again.
