Dragon Ball Expressions
Legacy Archive: Dragon Ball Expressions and Reaction Gags
This page preserves an old Dragon Ball fan-site style section about the facial expressions and visual comedy gags used throughout Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT.

The Confused Look
This expression is used a lot in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z by Goku, Gohan, and Goten.
Goku usually makes this face when he does not understand something. Gohan always seems to have this look on his face while he is in high school. Goten seems to be confused all the time, because he always has this look on his face.
As far as I know, Vegeta never looks like this.
The Worried Snot Gag
This one is kind of nasty. It looks like a big goopy string of snot is coming out of the character’s nose.
This usually happens when a character gets worried or scared of something. It is mostly used for humor though. You will never see anyone do this during a serious fight.
The Famous Fall Down
Ah, the famous fall down. This is not really a facial expression, but it just had to be included here.
Whenever someone says or does something ridiculous, stupid, or unexpected, the other people around them will fall down from surprise.
Akira Toriyama makes these scenes funny, and I like them a lot.
The Eyes-Pop-Out Look
Next is the big eyes-pop-out-of-the-head look.
Not all of the characters do this. Sometimes they will fall down, then get back up with a big sweat drop on their head instead of their eyes popping out.
The Angry or Serious Expression
This is the angry and serious expression. Every warrior has this look at one time or another during battle.
All Super Saiyans have this look except for Goku and Gohan during the Cell Games. That is because they were able to gain complete control over the Super Saiyan state.
This expression is probably used most often by Vegeta, since he always looks angry or serious.
The Dreaded Smirk
This has got to be the most famous look: the dreaded smirk.
It is seen on many faces, especially Vegeta’s. It normally comes right before a big power-up sequence.
It is such a great way to belittle your opponent. I love it.
The “This Is Gonna Hurt” Look
This is the “Oh no, this is gonna hurt a lot” look.
It is seen on most characters throughout Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. It is usually followed by the “Damn, that did hurt” look.
