For a while now it’s been pretty well known and thrilling that Fox announced last year in December, that e 21st Century Fox would be sold to Disney. While Fox themselves has a number of properties that would more or less make or hurt them with Disney under the control, the biggest one has always been Marvel.
What is the Deal?
Under the terms of the agreement, which is expected to close by summer 2019, pending regulatory approval, Disney will acquire the Twentieth Century Fox film and TV studios, cable networks.
These include FX Networks and Fox Sports Regional Networks, stakes in National Geographic Partners, Fox Networks Group, Indian satellite TV group Star India, stakes in Hulu, UK based satellite TV group Sky plc, and other key assets. 21st Century Fox will spin-off Fox News, the Fox Business Network, FS1, FS2, Fox Deportes, the Big Ten Network, the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Television Stations, and MyNetworkTV into the “New Fox” company.
Comcast Wants Fox
The biggest question many people might have, including myself is why would Comcast want Fox? Well, I’m all that into Cable TV anymore. In fact, I haven’t paid or watched cable TV in over a decade now. Comcast is one of the worlds biggest cable companies out there. No, they are the BIGGEST so it makes sense that they would want Fox.
As above, it would appear that Comcast would want to buy Fox simply for the access to their TV programming. Given that Comcast is a broadcasting and cable television company I can see this.
Make Marvel Whole Again
The big news coming out of Disney putting a bin in for Fox thrilled fans with the idea that finally, all Marvel properties would be under one Banner. The MCU would have access to characters such as Deadpool, Fantastic Four and all it’s villains and characters part of that deal and most of all the X-Men which is a massive franchise of characters. It would change the game for the MCU which I feel personally is needed after Infinity Wars.
But the question is, what if Disney loses the bid? There are a number of reports and news that Comcast is asking Fox to not go with Disney, other than control of too much stake, I feel that while Disney itself does offer TV programming same as Comcast, they are in competition with each other.
We’ll see how things play out, but I wanna know what you think? Do you care about the deal in terms of how this is gonna affect TV programming? Honestly, I could care less and really only wanna see Marvel get the rights back to the X-Men and co. But the biggest question I have as well if Comcast gets Fox, do the rights to those Marvel franchises transfer to Comcast with Fox or do the revert back to Marvel/Disney?
