Well haven’t posted anything here in a while. On a personal level just been taking it easy. I haven’t done much. Work on some of the site here and there. I just added a new rss feed section to the site core and plan on fixing some of the less visited errors.

I am kind of shocked at the fact that over the weekend, for me at least Google wasn’t working and for the most part did cause the site to not want to load for me. Again I don’t know if it was just me or if Google was done for everyone this past weekend and early Monday.

What it did for me was open my eyes a little. As you know I have Google Ads running on the site and for the most part out of the almost 3 years I’ve had them I’ve gotten a check from Google once for like 120 bucks which was and has been long gone into contest winnings and general upkeep of the site. Well that was over a year ago, last June of 2005.

So yeah as you can see with that and some other Google related stuff I was using I have decided to cut my losses and just remove the ads all together and the other Google stuff. I know my sites not all that big, but I’m not going to have it go down because Google goes down. They don’t control my site, I do. I find it so funny that so many sites nowadays use Google’s little stuff on their site, Ads, tracking data, Maps, etc. All for what? So that when Google goes down you go down. Maybe I’m just thinking too much into that.

What I do know is I like many block ads when surfing. I don’t come online to buy stuff often and when I do never once has an add gotten me to buy something. Most ads online are scams anyways. Unlike others, I don’t sell crap. Maybe I’m just bitter that other sites that would be labeled in my area are making money. I have a friend that every time we get into chatting about Google ads he always brings up how much he makes everyday and stuff. Maybe I should have done what so many do and cheat the system. You read up all the rules on what to do and what not to do with your Google Ads, however when you look at 90% of the sites who have Google ads they break those rules and as a result they make money, either as profit or at least to pay server cost other then out of their own pockets.

So yeah over the week all the ads are going to be coming down. Never made any money with any site I’ve every run, even sites design to make money. Not going to bother with it anymore.
