I’ve been watching Vampire Knight and finally finished it and I have to say I’m not all that impressed by the story or characters. You can get Vampire Knight: Complete Series on DVD, which I do recommend if you love the series. My girlfriend order it a few months ago which is how I saw the series. The basics story is about a girl and a vampire who happen to be connected by an event that happen to the girl when she was little.
I’m not going to have too many spoilers here but I’ll let you know the core what makes Vampire Knight. First I’ll talk about the charters and how simple-minded they are.
Yuki is the main character of the story, as every event of the story. What makes her so annoying is the fact the other two male stars are in love with her. One being a pure blood vampire and the other being a vampire hunter who was bite and slowly becoming a vampire. I don’t see what they see in her and the twist is just to screw up for me. Most of her character is toss out in the last half.
Zero is the male character who is in love with Yuki at the start, you can only tell with how he acts. He is her step-brother only by the fact he lives with her and her step-father. However his family was basically killed by a vampire and he was bitten by said vampire. The story is around him early on and how he deals with this and his relationship with Yuki. The thing is about Zero, he’s likely the only character that has a good back story, but they don’t do anything with it and his reasons are simply too simple-minded and silly so it’s just a waste.
Kaname, the vampire who saves Yuki and protects her in his creepy fashion. Which we learn about why later on which to me is just really more of a failed loved triangle between Zero and Yuki. He’s a vampire and the other vampires worship him and follow his ever command. The problem is his goals aren’t that clear and when they do become clear what he’s doing, it way out there and almost too stupid for me to believe.
The problem with Vampire Knight is the fact the story has some really cool elements, the other vampires with Kaname, all have their own cool powers and the name of the show, Vampire Knight makes you think its going to be an anime for males with a whole lot of fighting. However it’s not, it’s for woman and the vampires hardly use their powers and when they do it’s just for silly reasons.
Overall I give Vampire Knight a 3 out of 5, it’s a great idea and the last half of the series when the main villain shows himself, Rido and finally the show getting rather good but the first half is just too silly and even when Rido added in, not enough to save the show for me. It’s not horrible mind you, it has it’s moment after all.
