Hey guys, what can I say I took a little bit of time off. Almost 2 months now and the reason for this has been a number of reasons. Burn out has been a big one. Between trying to do all this, the website, blogging, Streaming and having fun, YouTube and everything along those lines. I’ve always been about having fun and with the podcast dying on me, all have been reasons that I have ended up stopping everything.
I thought about starting over fully, such as well Dragon Ball as a term of a series is amazing and I’m always going to love it. Running a pure Dragon Ball website today isn’t something I find worth doing. I’ll list a few reasons.
- Dragon Ball Fan sites have been replaced with Wiki
- People just want to Watch Episodes
- Discord/Facebook Groups
- YouTube
Back when I started in 1996, finding information was hard. We didn’t have amazing websites like Google or any big websites or newsgroups or anything like that where people could find things easily. I will, however, point out the biggest one was to why the Dragon Ball Fan Site no longer exists as it did.
YouTube Killed them
The Dragon Ball Community online is massive when it comes to YouTube. I have sadly pushed myself away from this community long ago and done my own thing. This was because of too many bad experiences back in the day. because of my lone-wolf mentality, I have pushed an entire community of a great and amazing people away. is this something that I can fix absolutely.
People consume more media than the word
You may not believe this but today’s society consumes more media AKA live video pre-recorded video than anything else. with internet speeds blazing faster than they ever have people just don’t want to read anymore.
Which is an understatement because you’re reading this right now. what I mean is people don’t want to read about anime series or comic book series they want to watch. And I’m guilty of this as well I would prefer to watch a full series for free or even sit and watch a couple of YouTubers for a few hours then search the internet for Wikipedia pages or fan pages and read misinformation.
A community of misinformation
let’s be honest the Dragon Ball Community since the beginning of time has been flooded with misinformation. People looking to make a quick buck or click by making up or stretching the truth. The biggest one was the Super Saiyan 5 Goku picture and the fabled Dragon Ball AF That was supposed to take place after Dragon Ball GT. Of course, we all know that is fake but what’s ironic is that in a way the Super Saiyan 5 Goku actually almost came true considering Goku actually does down the white hair in Ultra instinct.
Wikipedia’s Discord and Facebook groups
I have discovered and the last few months that there are far more Wikipedia pages and Facebook groups about Dragon Ball then there is an actual fan page. Granted fan pages still exist but just not to the capacity that they did back in the early 2000s.
What are the disadvantages I have is not having a staff of people willing and able to maintain this website in the capacity that it should? Does that mean I could find like-minded individuals willing and wanting yes again the Lone Wolf mentality falls into effect again? It’s more so if I don’t do it myself it’s not going to get done.
This comes down to a trust issue that I have when it comes to people. Something I’m working on. However, I have passion and it seems as something that happens to me every summer I lose my quote-unquote muse add start gambling and other things only to come back in the fall. To my credit, I am actually more focused on my move and my future then I am my hobby which is this website.
What does the future hold?
One of the biggest mistakes I ever made and I seem to continue to make this mistake is treating it like a business. telling people and myself that this is a second job. That let me tell you something I really hate working. let me rephrase that I hate working for nothing. I have noticed that as much as I hate to get up in the morning and drive myself to work once I actually punch in I find myself enjoying my job. I find myself working hard to help others and to create a healthy work environment and most of all to have fun with my peers and those above me.
I believe this is the case because I know at the end of the day no matter what task I get done I’m still going to get paid at the end of the day. whereas I could spend eight hours a day writing blog posts, streaming my favorite video game and having a blast doing it to the few fans and loyal friends that I have hoodoo watch. then, of course, there’s YouTube.
Starting Over sucks
I’m going, to be honest with you I’m not extremely happy the way that YouTube channel went. I find it very hard to believe now that my numbers are legit. I will admit that I have paid a lot of money for advertising probably more than I should both through external YouTube and video ad services and Google ads themselves. not one really gave me the results I wanted and some of my view counts seem a bit off. that is probably the main reason why I kind of stopped the YouTube channel. Because I’ve been thinking of relaunching it completely from the ground up.
This is a conscious decision that I’m going to have to make over the next couple of months because I do not plan on making any videos or doing anything YouTube related until after I move and get resettled in. As of this writing, I’m actually pretty confident that I’m going to relaunch YouTube and start completely over. There are many things that I learned that I believe would work better had I done them from the very beginning and not so late in the game. Of course, some might argue that starting over is a huge mistake.
When I say starting over I don’t necessarily mean deleting all my videos and making new videos I’m not going to delete the channel because of course, I do have some good content on there and of course, the library of music videos Majin Planets past.
