Invincible was one of those shows I had heard people talk about for years without ever feeling the need to watch it myself.

A friend of mine kept bringing it up, so eventually I just said screw it and decided to give it a chance.

I started watching it on Amazon Prime without really knowing if I was going to enjoy it or how far I would even make it. I knew the show was popular, and I had seen people talk about characters like Invincible and Omni-Man, but outside of that, I was mostly going into it fresh.

Now that I have watched the entire thing, I understand why people enjoy it.

It Did Not Win Me Over Immediately

I would not say that I loved every episode.

There were a handful of episodes that I thought were kind of boring, and some parts of the show felt like filler. That stood out even more because the seasons are relatively short.

When a season only has around eight episodes, and those episodes are close to an hour long, a slower episode can feel like a much bigger part of the season.

That is one of the problems I sometimes have with modern television. There may not be as much filler as older shows had, but when the filler does show up, it can hurt the overall flow more because there are fewer episodes to work with.

Even with that issue, I kept watching.

The Show Eventually Grew on Me

The further I got into Invincible, the more I started enjoying it.

The characters became more interesting, and I liked the way the story continued to grow beyond the basic idea of a young superhero learning how to use his powers.

There is a lot more going on within the world, the different characters, and the conflicts surrounding them.

By the time I reached the later seasons, I was no longer watching simply because my friend had recommended it. I was watching because I wanted to see what happened next.

That is probably the biggest compliment I can give the show.

It took some time to fully pull me in, but once it did, I was invested.

The Viltrumites Were the Most Interesting Part

The part of the story that interested me the most was everything involving the Viltrumites.

The more the series explored them, their history, and their place within the larger story, the more interested I became.

What starts as a superhero show becomes something much larger as you learn more about where Omni-Man came from, what the Viltrumites are capable of, and what they mean for Mark and everyone around him.

That larger conflict gave me a reason to keep watching.

It stopped feeling like a simple superhero series and started feeling like a much bigger story that was slowly unfolding over several seasons.

The Characters Kept Me Interested

There were also several characters that I ended up enjoying more than I expected.

Mark grew on me as the show continued, and Omni-Man was much more interesting once I was able to see the complete story surrounding him instead of only knowing him through random clips and conversations online.

The show also spends enough time with its supporting characters that the world feels like it exists beyond only Mark and his family.

Not every storyline worked equally well for me, but there were enough characters and ongoing conflicts to keep me interested even when an individual episode felt slower.

Then I Started Thinking About the Figures

Of course, after finishing the show, the collector part of my brain started working.

I saw that Jada Toys was going to be making figures based on Invincible, and I started asking myself if I needed to add anything from the series to my collection.

I do not think I would need an entire collection of Invincible figures.

However, I could see myself picking up Invincible and Omni-Man.

For me, those two characters would be enough to represent the show and the experience of finally giving it a chance after hearing people talk about it for so long.

That is usually how I prefer to collect something like this.

I do not need every character simply because I enjoyed the series. Sometimes one or two figures are enough to represent the part of it that mattered to me.

Final Thoughts

I went into Invincible without knowing if I would even finish it.

There were definitely episodes and parts of the show that I thought dragged, but the series continued to grow on me as I made my way through it.

The characters became more interesting, the larger story pulled me in, and the Viltrumites gave the series a conflict that I wanted to continue following.

Now that I have watched everything that is currently available, I am looking forward to the next season.

I finally understand why my friend kept talking about it.

I am also probably going to end up with an Invincible and Omni-Man sitting somewhere in my collection.
